What is the history and origin of the Reebok brand?

The Reebok brand was created in England, in the town of Bolton in 1895, and is one of the oldest sports equipment manufacturers. Founder Joseph Foster created the first Reebok sports shoes in the 19th century by hand. The company enjoyed rapid success, equipping the world's greatest athletes for the 1924 Paris Olympic Games.

The brand name Reebok comes from the founder's two grandsons, whose origin is a tribute to a particular type of antelope they came across in Africa, the rhebok.

Alongside its competitors puma and New Balance, Reebok also decided to enter the running and athletics sports shoe market. Reebok took advantage of the running boom in the 1980s and the success of the New York Marathon to specialize in running shoes priced at just $60. This positioning as an affordable specialist made it a favorite among joggers.

Reebok is also a pioneer in the field, since in 1992 the brand was the first to create a sports shoe designed exclusively for women athletes. This year marked a turning point for the company Reebok, its image and reputation.

The " Reebok Freestyle" is a sports shoe designed specifically for women who practice aerobics, which was very much in vogue at the time with TV shows and icons like Jane Fonda. The Reebok was designed for them, helping to support their ankles during the intense, successive efforts characteristic of gymnastics by protecting them with a high-top sneaker. The Reebok freestyle sneaker is now a permanent fixture in hip-hop and streetwear closets, where it can be worn every day with fresh, casual looks.

How to choose reeboks for sports?

To keep pace with customers and maintain its status as a leader in the athletic footwear sector, Reebok created pump technology, the aim of which is to support the foot by inflating part of the shoe, thus personalizing it.

Reebok the companycreated pump shoes primarily for basketball players, for whom stability and ankle support during the game are crucial. Reebok extended pump technology to its fitness sneakers, with the inflatable part located inside the sides of the sneaker to provide full support.

In 2005, Reebok was acquired by Adidas, who decided to make each brand a specialist in its own right. Reebok specialized in special crossfit and fitness trainers.

Adidas chose to focus on running shoes. In 2010, Reebok launched its Reebok toning technical sneakers, designed to help athletes work and mobilize all their leg muscles. The Reebok toning has a sole separated into two slightly domed zones. This slight imbalance accentuates the athlete's effort and forces him or her to use all muscles evenly to maintain balance.

In 2011, Reebok created zig Tech technology with the help of an unexpected but renowned partner: NASA. The aim of zig Tech technology is to offer a flexible, lightweight shoe with solid cushioning for a quality stride. This wide-soled model is designed exclusively for track running, crossfit and fitness.

In 2012, barely a year after the success of the zig Tech technology, Reebok surprised the sportswear world with a new technology called realflex.

The aim is still the same: an ultra-light, flexible shoe, to offer the runner the sensation of moving without being weighed down, encumbered but on the contrary propelled. The reaflex promises a barefoot running sensation, without the inconvenience of cushioning. The sole is studded to help direct foot movement.
