Founded in 1882 in Romilly sur Seine, in the Aube region of France, Le Coq Sportif manufactures sports equipment and footwear. At the time, the company was particularly involved in professional sports around the world, and in the 1970s and 1980s began to enjoy an enormous reputation, especially among French consumers who were proud to wear their blue/white/red flag. Le Coq sportif became the equipment of the majority of soccer and rugby clubs.

In 1920, Mireille Camuset, daughter of the founder of the "Le Coq Sportif" brand, drew inspiration from the British, who were at the forefront of the industry, to create new sportswear which, by 1930, enabled the "Le Coq Sportif" brand to become the official supplier of the French soccer, basketball, rugby and athletics federations. In 2005, the Le Coq Sportif brand was relaunched by Marc-Henri Beausire and Robert Louis-Dreyfus via a Swiss investment company: Airesis (former owner ofadidas).

In 2017, over 100 people work in the "Le Coq sportif" production center, which works closely with partners in Troyes responsible for knitting and dyeing. 90% of the brand's textile raw materials are developed in Aube. A good point for the French brand that relies on local know-how.
