Ahighly controversial garment in the men's wardrobe, the tank top has become a trendy retro-pop icon in recent years! Colorful and tie-and-dye, the marcel is cute, fresh and youthful, to be worn with gray or black chino pants and a pair of Adidas, puma or Reebok sneakers, thanks to our selection of sales and promotions on men's clothing from Brentiny Paris.

Made of cotton, tight-fitting and body-hugging for some, its wide, comfortable straps and simplicity will appeal to many as summer approaches. We'll go for a total beach look with an open shirt, a white wifebeater and colorful shorts, but avoid the gold bracelet and bob combo in favor of a plain cap and fleece jogging jacket or a khaki quilted bomber jacket!

Overthe last few years, the tank top has gone from being an outdated garment to a cult item. It's proudly worn and assumed in summer, warms us up in winter under warm sweaters, and can easily be slipped on under a turtleneck sweater to practice the layering technique.

What is the history of the men's tank top?

Originally, the ancestor of the marcel and the tank top as we know it is an undergarment, more precisely a sleeveless, white, ribbed skin knit. Designed as a close-fitting garment for a second-skin effect, it was quickly adopted by men under their sweaters. The tank top is supple, elastic and leaves you free to move. Total comfort, the tank top is the right fashion plan for going on vacation with a light mind and a light suitcase!

A tank top lets you move and move without breaking a sweat, as it absorbs perspiration. The marcel has quickly been adopted for dual use, to keep warm in winter and bare in summer!

Initially a fetish garment for working men in agriculture and other physical occupations, the marcel, named after the owner who first made this sleeveless shirt, became a cult item for dockers in the port of Marseille, who made it an informal, everyday uniform.

The marcel, as a virile, masculine piece of clothing, took root in the collective imagination with Marlon Brondo's portrayal of Stanley Kowaski in the 1951 film "A Streetcar Named Desire".

At the same time, the tank top became very popular with women, who appropriated it in the midst of women's liberation for a feminine, androgynous look with wide-leg pants or cigarette pants. The marcel became unisex, androgynous, retaining that natural, wild touch of a low-key, sophisticated look. Less restrictive than dresses or cardigans, tank tops quickly find their place in women's dressing rooms.

Adopted by movie stars such as bruce willis, who plays John Mcclane in die hard, and music stars such as Freddy Mercury for the queen concert, the tank top became a rebel, part of a counter-culture of freer, less stuffy, more practical clothing.

Since then, the tank top has held its own in both men's and women's closets, through the ages and across fashion trends. Ultra cropped, fishnet, colorful for women, soft pastel and tender for men, the tank top is a masculine and feminine piece that adapts without ever wearing out.

How to wear a tank top?

In 2022, we're bringing it back into fashion by surfing the casual smart trend, always with elegant men's pants or bottoms. We're breaking with codes by wearing our tie-and-dye tank top with chino pants or linen shorts and a pair of flip-flops, a plain cap and a classic oversized hoodie.

Initially a popular, sober piece, the marcel becomes chic under a white shirt, with suit pants, and a regular-fit blazer jacket in mottled gray, perfect for an autumn look to protect against the cold with an invisible-effect top under the skin.

In winter, slip your marcel under a chunky knit turtleneck sweater , with wide-leg regular or bootcut jeans, a pair of brown timberland boots and a brown velvet cap for a trendy neo-dandy look!

Perfect for a summer evening, the cotton tank top saves the day for an afternoon at the pool, worn with fleece shorts, a pair of white sneakers and a pair of sunglasses for UV protection!

We love the ultra-trendy, neo-grunge look, with a tank top and colorful polyester pop shorts, a white or green bob and wedge sandals for a jungle urban fever look.
