What's the history of bracelets?

Bracelets have a long and varied history, with the first traces of this light, flowing, wispy jewel found over 2.5 million years ago. Mankind's first bracelets were made from the bones of hunted animals, wood, stones and the natural elements that surrounded prehistoric man.

Bracelets were very useful in combat, protecting wrists from blows or bites. The bracelet also served as a mark of power and wealth, to show others one's rank, importance and power in the community hierarchy.

Women used the sound and tinkling of bracelets to be recognized by their children from afar.

It wasn't until the Middle Ages that the first metal jewelry appeared, but it met with little success compared to the more fashionable headdresses, necklaces and other head jewels of the time. It was not until the 16th century that bracelets became all the rage: manufacturing techniques changed, new shapes were created and new materials used: pearls, bright and shiny stones, pendants and charms. Initially worn only by the wealthiest noble families, as a sign of social distinction, the bracelet became popularized and democratized to become essentially aesthetic.

In prehistoric times, bracelets, like jewelry, were used for fighting and survival. The first symbolism attached to this jewel appeared later.

Bracelets are becoming fashionable in the West, but not only: their use is developing and adapting to local traditions and cultures. In Asia, they often have a spiritual aura, and are often used as offerings to gods and goddesses, or as good luck charms or protection against the evil eye.
