Shorts, whose history dates back to the 19th century and was formerly known as knickerbockers, are a casual summer piece that you take with you on vacation, for a stroll with friends by the sea.
Before becoming a must-have in men's dressing rooms, shorts were a garment reserved for members of the aristocracy. Indeed, shorts were considered a refined and elegant piece of clothing that served to distinguish oneself and remind one of one's social standing. It was in the 19th century that shorts became sportswear, and at the same time an important part of schoolchildren's uniforms! It wasn't until the first paid vacations in 1936 that shorts became the emblem of idleness, vacation and leisure. Shorts were worn in town and in the country, and became increasingly popular among all social classes. Little by little, women took advantage of the female emancipation movement to adopt shorts too, and celebrities like Marilyn Monroe made them their own, turning them into a cool, practical, all-purpose garment! Shorts are evolving: oversized, mini or ripped, in denim, linen or cotton, they're now made to suit all tastes and silhouettes at low prices!
Shorts are at once casual, chic and elegant, as long as you choose and match them well! Cut, color, fabric - we've got it all here, to help you look fresh as a daisy all summer long!
If you're a man, don't go for shorts that are too short or too tight.
If you want to wear shorts to work, opt for a noble material like cotton or elegant linen. Preferably knee-length or just above the knee, to avoid a look that's too beachy and relaxed, to be worn with chic, refined pieces from your men's dressing room. For example, pair dark beige linen shorts in a regular fit with a white shirt with an Italian collar or long-sleeved French collar. Elegant footwear is a must with shorts, such as a pair of boat moccasins or Adidas or Puma sneakers, but avoid Richelieu-type dress shoes to avoid confusing the message.
Bermuda shorts are best reserved for men of average build, and sturdy men who don't want to mould their figure too much. To be 100% comfortable, wear a loose-fitting, flowing long-sleeved white shirt with an officer's collar, a bomber jacket if the weather is cool, and a pair of trendy puma or reebook sneakers in the spirit of running and casual chic. So you don't sacrifice comfort or elegance! Don't hesitate to roll up your Bermuda shorts - a simple hem will usually suffice to shorten them to the right size for a tailor-made shorts effect!

Which models, cuts and colors to choose for men's shorts?
Chino shorts are perfect for a smart-casual look, with 2 side pockets and 2 back pockets in general. They're very practical, with a straight cut that suits most men's morphologies. Always buy your chino shorts a little baggy. Cargo shorts, with their baggy cut and low, wide pockets, are more streetwear and should only be worn for private, family events - not to the office! On the other hand, they're perfect for an adventurous look, and for a summer stroll through the jungle, they're the perfect choice! We're going for a retro Hawaiian total look with a large floral short-sleeved shirt and lapel collar, beige cargo shorts and a pair of timberland boots, sturdy shoes that protect your feet during your adventures in the wild!
